Pretty Awesome

Pretty Awesome

My client (Lauren Leitner Gelston, a designer, who is based out of Tampa) who commissioned the album cover artwork sent photos of the framed and installed pieces. It was really exciting to see my work on the walls, all professionally framed and in such a well-designed space. Thank you so much, Lauren! Im actually doing yet another canvas for this space, soon.

I wanted to share with you guys the photos from the space that she sent me!

incase you forgot, the gallery wall was album cover artwork from bands that the client loved, and I tweaked them a bit, and took away most of the words. I also made everything black and white, except for the Daft Punk record, where the helmet is gold. The gold matches perfectly with the gold in the frames.

This was a phone photo that I had to brighten to be able to see everything. Sorry for the bad quality.

Cool, right?! She said they get tons of comments, compliments and questions about the artwork! Did I mention its a doctors office? Pretty awesome doctor, Id say.

And remember the painting that made me cry at Fed Ex when I was shipping?

Here she is all installed:

it looks sort of yellow in the photo above, but the background is really creamy white.

And, I finally uploaded some photos I took of the other paintings/drawings, so incase you are interested, here they are too:

All hung up. I kept hanging them on the wall, because after I finished each one, there was no where to put them. Hah.

led zeppelin
(this one was mostly in ink. I cant remember the name of the type of ink I used. I was going go buy india ink, but the guy at the art supply store suggested this other type, and I really liked it. It was thicker. I also used some chalk for the clouds)

this is the tribe called quest one:

it was all in charcoal. it was really, really textural, which i liked.
i purposely made the background very linear with the charcoal lines still showing. it was also really big, something like 48" tall.

daft punk! my favorite one. i made this one by sketching out the silhouettes of their heads (This one was also really big, probably around 38" wide?), then painting in the black areas with the ink. after it was dry, i used white paint to get those reflection lines, and then a golden brand gold paint for the gold lines. after I did the large blocks of gold on the head on the right, i went back in with the black ink and painted the black reflection lines.

the original album artwork is some kind of manipulated photograph, I think. its like theyre in a room that is reflecting off those helmets. it reminds me of that jamiraquai video from back in the day.

not really sure why, i guess the room?

hah. anyway!

heres a detail shot of it, from the side. I was trying to capture the pretty gold paint, but it didnt work that well:
